Holtkamp Winery

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

It's Memorial Day weekend and what a beautiful day we had on Saturday! The weather was great out, graduation parties were in full swing and naturally we spent some time with family reflecting on the day and its meaning. We'd like to thank our active duty military, veterans and most importantly - recognize those who gave it all defending our country.

While wondering what to do in Southeast Indiana, we decided upon an old favorite - Holtkamp Winery. But before we get there, as we usually do - you guessed it - we stopped by the Funny Farm for a cup-o-joe and snacks to get us moving along our day.

While most of our day was uneventful, full of yardwork and a little shopping, the highlight was the Memorial Day Celebration at Hotkamp Winery in Sunman, Indiana. About 30 minutes and 18 miles from Downtown Lawrenceburg, Holtkamp is situated on a beautiful vineyard with an historic brick residence, winemaking operations and a tasting room. Holtkamp is one of our favorite Southeast Indiana spots with its serene setting and lots of open hours - we often just drop in for a glass or two and then head back out to whatever we have going on.

Holtkamp was established in 2013 and crafts both estate wines (wine from grapes grown on premises) as well as a number of varietals utilizing grapes from California. Like many Indiana Wineries, Holtkamp has a variety of fruit and sweet wines because many of the fruit and grape varieties that are hearty in our region are very sweet. Cabernet and Pinot Noir grapes, on the other hand, are not hearty in our region so Holtkamp partners with growers in California to acquire these grapes for their more robust wines. So, whether you enjoy a light, fruity wine on a hot day, or a robust cab with dinner, Holtkamp has you covered!

If you're looking for more than just wine - Holtkamp has events scheduled all throughout the year as well! This weekend we went to the Memorial Day Celebration where we enjoyed live music by the Yorkridge Boys and shopped local artisan vendors like Allie's Tallow Candles. The event is great for kids with a large grass area, pond (fishing permitted!) and wood-oven pizzas. Don't like wine? No worries! Holtkamp also partners with Great Crescent Brewing, local to Aurora, Indiana to provide a few selections of great beer.

Check out Holtkamp the next time you're looking for a relaxing glass of wine or just a scenic retreat in Southeast Indiana, you might even spot us hanging out!

Happy Exploring!
